23. A hearty broth made out of bones

thefridayfive because I could not resist the siren song of soup opinions.
1. Do you like soup?
Soup is among my favorite culinary inventions and I would argue the most beautiful in human history. When I was growing up my mom would make several soups and stews during the fall and winter seasons like clockwork, and to this day I ache for those rainy weekends we'd spend together, when I'd sleep in late and when I woke up she'd have a pot of soup ready, and we would queue up some murder show or another and pass the afternoon away.
2. What is your favorite soup?
Wonton soup is my favorite kind of soup generally. My favorite unique soup is the turkey soup my mom makes after Thanksgiving.
3. What kind of soup would you like to try, but never have?
Tom yum soup. The flavor profile fascinates me.
4. Is stew just a soup with extra ingredients?
No, stew is an entirely different texture and has an entirely different body and heartbeat. I never realized I had a strong opinion about this until answering this question just now so thanks for giving me a new hill to die on. I think of stew as thicker and hardier, and its backbone is not the broth, whereas broth makes or breaks a soup.
5. If you were a soup, what soup would you be and why?
Soupe au pistou because I am humble, long to be comforting, and love the shit out of basil.
