God! 2021! Where the hell did that come from?! I don't know about you but I am still in the midst of processing that 2020 even happened. I'm not convinced that it did but you and I are a year older for it so I guess that's proof of something.
How are you? Is it cold where you are? I'm in California and as I'm writing this it's raining outside, the first big blustery storm of the season, and it feels wonderful. I love the rain more than anything else. The leaves are falling, and the ships' foghorns are calling out to one another, and water is falling from the sky. Magical!
I'm very excited to know that you will be writing something for me this year, and grateful besides. Time seems to give out less and less of itself to everyone now, and I just want you to know how very much I value yours, and your words, and your imagination. I hope that my prompts give you something fun to work with, but please know that I will be happy with whatever you write for me; I mean that! You are sitting down to create something for ME at one of the busiest times of the year—an especially strange year, too, just like the one before—and that is deeply special. So don't stress to much, ODAO, no shame in defaulting if you need to, et cetera et cetera.

Yes I am still thinking about this show who isn't. I was obsessed with these two's dynamic, and yet more obsessed with Beth herself. I know the post-canon lands for these two have been well trod but I yearn for more: for how they come to know each other as people rather than chess players (and how this is maybe kind of terrifying for them, actually), the places that they find each other either expectedly or unexpectedly (chess tournaments only or in hotel rooms?), the intimate terror of sharing the same passion, the same hunger, for something no one else understands.
Would love: Beth character study! Benny backstory! New York visits over the years! Christmas fic! Romantic almosts! Moments of genuine care and vulnerability folded into hookups! Rivals with benefits! News of their relationship slowly spreading through the ranks of Hilton and Arthur and Matt and Mike and Townes and Harry! Fake dating, for chess reasons?!
Also love Beth's friendships with the twins, Harry, and Jolene. I would love for them to make an appearance if you're so inclined, but didn't want to require them.
I don't have many ambitious desires for Beth/Benny. I just want to see them Talk About Things. NSFW more than welcome for this fandom.

I rewatched this darling favorite of mine with my roommate this year and was slammed into by feelings new and old about the characters and story, but especially about these two. They're kind of tragic, aren't they? In a sweeping romantic old school kind of way. Idk. One of the greatest romances in anime but that's just my opinion.
Would love: Only Yesterday-style fic where Houtarou comes to work on the farm during harvest season, and has to contend with Chitanda's eccentric relatives. The bittersweetness of senior year. A hike in honor of Ougi-sensei. An almost-kiss at the library. Visiting Sekitani Jun's grave over the years. Or anything to do with them + my ship/fic likes detailed above. No NSFW for this one, please.

Super 8 (2011)

2013 was my first Yuletide, and I requested Super 8 because it was my favorite movie at the time. Lo and behold I did get a fic for it, which was stupendous. I ended up re-watching this tiny gem of a film this year in honor of its ten-year anniversary (God) and my love for it was rekindled, albeit from a different angle. Namely: what are the kids like when they are twenty-somethings and still have not processed their trauma? So that is what I would LOVE to read about.
Joe and Alice's relationship was very special to me and the way it was written was brilliant: how she is the first one to look his grief in the eye, without apology but with total kindness, and how he is the first one to look at hers right back. What are their lives like ten or so years on? Did they drift apart and then find each other again? (My favorite scenario.) Is there a high school reunion in Lillian that brings all the friends back together, and do they end up confronting what they went through, at the bar that's been there forever or on the living room floor of someone's parents' house or out in an empty field at midnight, all of them half drunk and half in love with each other? I want to see this movie get the It Chapter Two treatment. I want to see Alice and Joe fall in love as adults who've been through more than anyone else can understand. I want to see Joe and Charles, still the best of friends even if time and distance have separated them for a while. I just want to know what happens to all of them, and I want it to be about friendship and love and getting better, and being the only few people in this world who look up at the stars and see something nobody else does.
